R-22 Freon prices soar

This day and age when you find everything going up in price from your gasoline to your milk, your air conditioner is no exception. The price per pound of R-22 Freon has typically jumped from $25lb. to $50lb. or more depending on the contractor. If your air conditioner springs a leak in the coils or refrigerant lines it can be a costly repair. As a consumer, you have alternatives to help alleviate this problem. #1 Depending on the age of the unit you can replace the unit with a new R410A Freon which will allow you a more efficient unit and the R410A is much cheaper to replace than R-22. Your second option is when you need R-22 you can replace it with a substitute Freon called R421A made by Dynatemp. R421A is half the price and there is no need for any unit modification. However, you must recover any R-22 left in the system because the two freons do not mix. The third and final option is to recharge the system with R-22 and add a product called “leak freeze” to prevent any future leaks. The fourth and final option is to recharge the system with R-22 and cross your fingers. We will be happy to discuss any option with you over the phone or in person.
